About the moonrakers and about The Moonrakers

The story of the moonrakers is told in the Wikipedia article of the same name. Simple country fellows have the last laugh against officialdom – something we all dream about. The Moonrakers was the name of a fabulous Wiltshire gliding club that operated in the 1950’s and 1960’s from RAF Lyneham and then RAF Upavon. I was an active member of the club in the second half of the 1950’s, starting from my period of National Service in the RAF. My youth and its naive idealism: still present today.

  1. Hi Robin, I have just come upon your Moonraker56 Blogs and just wanted to touch base or maybe “touch down” with you after more than half a Century away from Moonrakers (RAFGSA). Like you I share many fond memories of Lyneham and all that we achieved then. i’ll be pleased to hear from you when you receive this.
    Best regards,
